Naked Wines: Stephen Millier
In 1990, Stephen and Liz Millier moved Milliaire Winery into a historic Flying A gas station on Main Street in Murphys, California: barrels in the repair bays, tanks in the backyard, bottling out front, the tasting room in the old office.
The station's architecture and old forecourt graphics gave the range a visual language that was specific, characterful and entirely its own.
A centred, badge-style layout echoes old forecourt signage. The Millier name sits in bold, rounded sign lettering. A muted, dusty palette carries across the range, with a dedicated colour for every varietal, holding the suite together while letting each wine stand on its own. And anchoring every label is an illustrated portrait of Stephen, adding the warmth and humour that give the range its personality.
